We thus serve and love God by serving and loving others! We are commanded to care for orphans and widows, serving God by loving those in need. Jesus makes it clear that His will for our lives is to love Him with everything and to care for those in need and to extend the mercy we have been shown. James 1:27, “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” Psalm 27:10, “For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me in.” We have all once been orphans before the adoption as sons to God. Widows have lost husbands orphans have lost parents. Jesus has a heart of compassion and establishes justice, “You, LORD, hear the desire of the afflicted you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, defending the fatherless and the oppressed, so that mere earthly mortals will never again strike terror” Psalm 10:17–18. In that moment of trusting Jesus, we are forgiven, justified, and accepted by the Father! All by grace through Faith! Because of this free gift of grace, we can serve the LORD, loving His commands and having a heart after Jesus. When we are given faith, when amid sorrow, we can be filled with joy and love of the Father who has chosen and redeemed us, our lives are lived not by our own strength but the strength of our Savior and Righteousness Jesus Christ.
